Fun with Art

This is an Alexander Calder inspired workshop led by the Airdrie Arts Society that will teach kids some art history and allow them to be hands-on in their own project.

Alexander Calder was an American sculptor who is best known for his innovative mobiles that embrace chance in their aesthetic and his monumental public sculptures.
Calder Art discipline: Abstract art, Expressionism, Abstract expressionism, Modern art, Kinetic art, Surrealism, Section d’Or

In this workshop kids will have the opportunity to create their very own wire sculptures based off Alexander Calder’s style. They can take home their work or add it to our public mobile sculpture “Whimsical Wanderings”

Our Artist will help guide children (and their parents) in sculpting wire to being there imagination to life. We use colorful wire that is easy to mold for creative ease.

Kids can use wire to create many different types of images such as :
• Faces
• plants
• Animals
• Shapes

Introducing various object into the sculpture can ad weight for balance and can add even more of one’s individuality to the piece as well as weight and stability to the structure. Some items that can be added:
• Beads
• Stones
• Paper
• Foil
• Other treasures and trinkets

Ages: 4 years and up (parents must stay and assist their kids)
